What to do if cats don’t like to drink water?
Cats are prone to kidney disease and urinary tract disease. For the health of cats, cat owners need to allow cats to consume enough water every day. Normal cats drink 40-60ML per kilogram per day. In order to complete this task, the cat owner is also very troubled! So next, I recommend several ways to increase the amount of water your cat drinks.
1. Keep the water clean
Cats have high requirements for water quality. If there is dust in the water or the cat water bowl has not been cleaned for a long time, these will all become reasons for the cat not to drink water. Therefore, cat owners should clean the water bowl regularly, and replace the cat’s drinking water every day.
2. Feed the cat raw flesh or canned food
Add more water when feeding raw bones or canned food, so that when the cat is full, it will also take in enough water. It is not recommended to soak dry cat food directly in water, which will easily produce bacteria.
3. Separate cat food and water bowl
Cats in the wild will consciously bring food to a place far away from the water for consumption and storage to prevent food and water from being contaminated by bacteria. Therefore, if the water bowl and the food bowl are placed together, the cat will establish a conditioned reflex that "only drink water when eat."
According to the cat's drinking habits, you can separate the water bowl and the food bowl at home, and place a few more water bowls, so that the cat can drink water at any time wherever it goes.
4. Choose containers according to the different drinking habits of each cat
Picky cats will have a preference for the shape and material of the water bowl. Some cats prefer their whiskers and don't like them to be touched when drinking water, so they prefer a water bowl with a wide opening. And some cats like narrow and tall cups, do not use their own bowls, and prefer to drink water from its owner's cup.
